  20. Please take a moment to read this before posting to comp.unix.wizards
  21. for the first time.

  23. comp.unix.wizards is for unmoderated, in-depth discussion of advanced
  24. unix topics.

  26. Elementary questions do not belong in comp.unix.wizards.  For example,
  27. technical socket questions can be appropriate but "How do I program
  28. with sockets?" is too basic for comp.unix.wizards.

  30. Many questions about usage of unix editors, shells, utilities, vendor-
  31. specific system administration, and unix folklore usually elicit better
  32. responses in other newsgroups.

  34. Crossposting to comp.unix.wizards and comp.unix.questions is
  35. inappropriate.  Plenty of wizards read comp.unix.questions and answer
  36. questions there.  (KILL file users who would like to skip all
  37. crossposted articles are invited to use "/Newsgroups:.*,/h:j").

  39. A wizard is someone who can rewrite the entire system from scratch.  If
  40. you are not a wizard (as I am not), you are welcome to follow along the
  41. discussions anyway (as I do).  You'll learn quite a bit about how UNIX
  42. works.  Caution:  customarily, only those who are themselves "unix
  43. wizards" should post to comp.unix.wizards.

  45. For a list of answers to frequently asked questions (FAQ), please refer
  46. to comp.unix.questions (or comp.lang.c, comp.answers, etc...).  "How do
  47. I delete a file whose name starts with a '-' ?" is an example of such a
  48. question.  Please do not ask or answer FAQ's on the net.

  50. The unix-wizards mailing list, which consisted of periodic digests of
  51. this newsgroup, is currently inactive.
  52.  
  53. This message is posted to comp.unix.wizards weekly, with a 60 day
  54. expire time and no supersession.  The reason for this is to improve the
  55. likelihood that this article will be the oldest article in the
  56. newsgroup.  Hopefully, by doing this, a few more new users will see
  57. this article first, before they just dive right in.
